I was scheduled to leave BWI airport on a 5:50am flight. No one warned me that returning a car in time to make that flight and then getting from the rental site to the airport could be a problem. When it dawned on me that there could be a problem, I called Hertz. The person suggested that I return the car the night before and then "sleep at the airport." I was stunned that the idea of sleeping at the airport. I am 76 years old. I've slept at airports in years past, and it's not something I wanted to do. Floors are hard, the airport is chilly at night, I would hardly get any sleep. I ended up calling several nearby hotels to see if any had airport shuttles at 4am. I found a hotel, paid $141 that I hadn't expected to have to spend, but Hertz wouldn't reduce their rate in light of my returning the car early, I wish the Hertz agent would have cautioned me about the problems finding early-morning rides to the airport after dropping off a car at their off-site car pick-up place.
