The city is around 30km from the airport so it’s best to know how you’ll get there before you take your flights to Thailand. You can get the Airport Express service from level 1 of the airport. It will cost around 150 baht and is a great way of travel if you don’t mind a slightly crowded journey. Taxis are available from the same area outside of the airport but insist on getting a receipt and haggle for a price. The drivers are notorious at overcharging so make sure you agree on a price before you get in.
The easiest way is to jump on a bus from the airport and just hop off whenever you’ve reached your final destination. The airport bus runs every hour from 06:30 until 21:30 and is a cheap method of travel. You can use metered taxis if you are in a rush or don’t want to wait for the bus but these will cost a lot more. If there are a couple of you travelling you can split the fare and make it more worthwhile. If you are a confident driver then you can rent a car from the airport. This is a great choice if you plan to drive around different parts of Thailand but if you’re just going to go to your hotel then it might be more of an inconvenience.
