Cheap Car Rentals in Water Island, Saint Thomas Island

Very slow check in Had reservation, but no car available Forced to pay $200 extra for insurance, because I didn't have my insurance policy with me

Parking & rental car pickup/drop-off at STT airport is transitioning so quite the mess now. On the positive side, I unknowingly left my debit card in the rental car after returning it. Debbie hunted me down to inform me and she was kind enough to shred my card as I dealt with my bank. Very kind. On day 3 of 12 day rental, low tire pressure was displayed on dashboard. Called Budget and was told to bring in the car and “we’ll fix it”’. Despite late hour on Sunday, it was fixed in 30 minutes. Very kind again.

Person at desk was very rude. The drop off person was very nice. Car was way overpriced.

My car’s flat tire light was on, they told me it was just a sensor and not to worry about it. The car only had 17,000 miles on it but it was all beat up, scratched and dented and the molding was falling off the doors and trunk. On day 2 the battery died and I was stuck trying to find jumper cables for a few hours because the Avis help number was useless and the number for the local rental on the contract was never answered after about 200 tries. I was also given at least 2 other non working numbers and was on the phone with no resolution for hours that day because they could not get me in touch with the “right” people. I was unable to reach them and afraid to use the car so I did not use it for the rest of the week. Terrible car, terrible customer service.

When we picked up the car the attendant was very short with us and we could hardly follow what she was saying. This was the first time me and my new wife have ever rented a car and when she asked for us to pay we just used a debit card. We were than charged and extra 28 or so dollars a day because we didn't use a credit card, which wasn't mentioned until after she charged the card, and we weren't fully aware of this beforehand. We than asked her if we could switch our payment method to a credit card, which we had with us, to avoid the extra fee. She quickly and rudely respond that she couldn't do that for us since she already ran our card. Like I mentioned this was the first time we have ever rented a car and will likely be the last time we rent with Hertz unless we can somehow get this sorted out.

The car we rented was in poor shape..broken mirrors, loose floor mats, dents and scratches galore. Ants in the back seat. But easy pickup up and drop off and convenient airport shuttle.

Price was reasonable, they didn’t have the car size we requested, upgraded to a much larger vehicle which is not a great deal on an island with very narrow streets hard to find parking and expensive gas. The vehicle was an older model which was well cleaned but did have several exterior bruises which were accounted for, no problem there. The location when returning the car was a bit tricky to find. The check in process was a bit long but the return was quick.

Was given an old car with multiple dents/scratchers and poorly performed body work. Had to come back 5 min later because rear tire was half way flat, which they inflated and it was ok. On day 3 out of 4 day rental during the trip to Walgreens the battery died. When I called for help at the provided number and gave my location I was told the help is coming in 30 min. When nobody showed up in 30 min and I called the same number I was given ridiculous excuses that they could not reach me since they didn't have my number. At this point its late at night, we left the cars with the keys in the parking lot and took taxi home. The next day when I called they said they got the car but so far refused to compensate me for one day missed rental. It will likely escalate to a credit card dispute. Will never rent from them again.
