Cheap Car Rentals in Portland Airport

Great little car. Brakes need a little work. Reported when we got back and they said they would take care of it right away. Good experience!

It would of been helpful to be told how the turnpikes worked in the state of Maine. Overall the experience was great. Returning the vehicle was fast and easy, thank you.

Easy drop off, great car. Did not like that I was charged for the fuel option even though I brought the car back with a full tank. However, after calling a day after bringing the car back the error was corrected and I got a refund.

The cost was cheaper than the big guys but still 3x what I would expect to pay. The check in process was very slow.

Everything about Alamo and the rental car was great, except for one thing. We picked up the car very late, 11:15 pm, due to a flight delay. There was only one agent at the desk, and in working with him to check out the car, I asked if the car has a toll road transponder (having done my homework and knowing that many of the freeways back east are tolled). He said yes, that it did. However, he did not mention how to use the transponder, and provided no additional information on the transponder. Having never driven a rental car on the east coast before, I was unaware that the transponder had to be "opened" in order to be read by the cameras. It wasn't until we hit a toll road with a gate that that gatekeeper informed us that we needed to swing the transponder open for it to work. Unfortunately this was about two weeks into our trip, when we had driven through at least a dozen toll booths in the "EZ Pass" lanes, thinking we were good to go because "we had a transponder"! I come from Washington State, where our HOV transponders are always "on", and the only thing we have to change it to indicate if we are YES to HOV or NO to HOV. We don't have to "open" anything for the transponder to be read. So please make sure that your rental agents always tell people about having to "open" the transponders.

Took out the middle seat and it was dirty underneath. Otherwise, van was pretty much perfect.

Pickup line was slow. FIrst care they attempted to give us smelled like smoke. Another wait in line. Second car was nice.

I could not get in touch. I rented through rentalcars.com and can't get a receipt from Dollar. Dollar and RentalCars.com are charging separately. WTF?! This seems like it should be illegal. Bait and switch! Terrrible!

I reserved a specific vehicle and they couldn't find the keys. Changed to a van. Van was dirty, had scuffs and dents. Not what would have been preferred for a high end customer visit. Drop off...... Did not get a receipt at drop off and was just told to leave the keys in the vehicle.

Had a good edge that had electrical problems (no defrost on a rainy day and windows didn’t go down). The customer service staff handled it perfectly. Thank you!!

I would’ve liked someone to escort me to the car at pickup and introduce features to me. I would’ve liked to know the additional costs in advance

Drop off was easy....just drop off the keys. BUT the quote I was given is not what the final bill I got via email. So today I get to call customer service to woke that out...good luck right? Car was filthy...which we couldn't tell in the dark parking garage. Upholstry was stained...dashboard and inside windows dirty. I really don't think it was cleaned after it was used, YUCK!!! We took pictures when we picked it up to make sure we weren't held responsible for it.

In spite of Kayak or Hotwire sending me a reservation number when I got to the Portland airport National could not find my reservation and would not rent me a car. I have already sent a blistering email to one of you sucky third parties about this awful experience and I am astonished you keep asking me about it. Truly one of the WORST experiences I have ever had while traveling. Do not contact me again for any reason!!!!!

First car had less than half a tank of gas, and multiple warning lights (tire pressure low, needs oil change…). Second car was dirty- something spilled in back seat, previous renter papers, something spilled on dash-white…At over $100 a day, for a week, nobody checks these cars out?

Arriving to Portland on Saturday around noon, the wait till I got my car was over an hour or more. The return was excellent.
