Nadi (pronounced Nan dee) is situated on the western side of the main Fijian island of Viti Levu. Nadi is one of the more densely populated regions of Fiji, it has highlands, hot springs, sand dunes and excellent diving locations with plenty of hotels. Flights to Nadi are popular with tourists and pilgrims alike, as it is where the main airport and one of the largest Hindu temples in the southern hemisphere are located.
Peak Season:
July and August mark the high season. The school holidays period (Christmas, Easter etc.) are also busy times, as those working overseas return home to visit family and friends. Travellers who take flights to Nadi in July can join the locals in their biggest festival in the event calendar, Bula Festival. Tourists and natives party the week away together through an array of entertainment such as themed nights, parades, beauty pageants and games whilst tasting traditional Fijian delicacy’s at the variety of food stalls on offer.
Off Season:
February to April is low season, although the streets of Nadi come alive at the end of February with vibrant colours, parades, music and dancing during the Hindu Festival of Colours, Holi Festival. The weather is humid and wet during these months but if this doesn’t bother you it’s a good time to look for a cheap flight to Nadi.
On the western side of Viti Levu is Nadi. Once a small farming community, it’s grown in recent years becoming Fiji’s third largest city. Most travellers who book flights to Nadi stop by on their way from the airport, since the international airport is conveniently located there. But apart from just passing through, visitors who stay for a few days are pleasantly surprised with all it has to offer: golf, diving shopping and some good restaurants.
The outskirts of the city provide a good break from busy Nadi Town. Denarau Island to the west is a stunning creek and forest area where visitors can go for some peace and quiet. Or for a more adventurous side trip, the Nausori Highlands to the east provide some of the best mountain trekking in the country. So when you pack for your holiday remember to pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes.
Flying is the easiest way to get around Fiji’s islands. Once in Nadi taxis are easily found and sometimes stationed at local hotels and resorts. Buses will be a cheaper option though, especially between major cities. You can find comfortable, air-conditioned buses on Fiji Express.
Nadi International Airport (NAN) is Fiji’s main airport. There are local buses and coaches available to transport visitors to their hotels and resorts. Taxi and car rental companies are also represented at the airport.
