When is the best time to fly to Grand Junction?

Denver is well known for its snow, and Grand Junction is no exception. Between December and February, Grand Junction experiences its coldest weather, when temperatures can fall as low as -15 degrees Celsius. Because of a slowdown in tourist flow, activities can be sparse during these months, but this can also be a big win for budget-conscious travellers who want to stop at Grand Junction during a trip to Aspen, Denver or Utah.

The city defrosts in March, April and May, when nature comes back into bloom and tourists return to the city. September, October and November also offer moderate temperatures before the snowfall, and can be a great time to enjoy the best of Grand Junction for a fraction of the price.

During June, July and August, the temperatures in Grand Junction flirt with the triple digits. The weather is dry and not unbearably hot, so travellers should consider travel during these months, too.

Grand Junction overview

Colorado’s Grand Junction offers something for everyone. Outdoor activities and recreational opportunities abound, while stunning sights of Mother Nature at her best keep visitors coming year after year. Grand Junction is also building a buzz as Colorado’s wine country, without the crowds of locales like Napa Valley or Sonoma.

Surrounded by the peaks of Grand Mesa and the incredible red rocks of the Colorado National Monument, it’s hard not to spend your entire trip outdoors when visiting Grand Junction. Hiking and camping are popular activities in this part of Colorado, while a drive on the Grand Mesa National Scenic and Historic Byway won’t soon be forgotten. Rafting down the Colorado River is a must for thrill-seekers, while more laidback travellers can enjoy the river with a fishing trip.

More than 20 vineyards and wineries have turned Grand Junction into an up-and-coming wine country, and visitors can please their palates with a taste of Colorado’s locally grown varieties. Guided tours are available to make it easier to sample a wide offering of Colorado’s wines.

In town, Grand Junction welcomes visitors with museums, theatres, art exhibits and shopping destinations, plus an impressive selection of dining outlets. With plenty to do both in town and outdoors, it’s no wonder visitors return to Grand Junction again and again.
